Description

Our Podcast Remembering the Golden Age of the Internet takes you on a heartwarming journey through the 2010s internet era before corporate algorithms reshaped everything we truly held dear to our hearts. Within I explore three aspects of early internet-culture that I genuinely miss; 1. physical gaming culture(those midnight releases!), 2. authentic content creator ecosystems(before the Adpocalypse), and 3. simplistic social media feeds. While there's definitely some nostalgic rambling here and there about my experiences I've backed up my observations with data from sources like the 'Entertainment Software Association' and 'Pew Research Center' referenced at the very end of this post.

Features

Featured are my most memorable personal experiences alongside reflections as someone who grew up during this transformative period that forged the very foundation/roots of what the internet is today. You'll hear stories about waiting in GameStop parking lots at midnight, Friday night YouTube binges watching Epic Meal Time and Smosh, and even memories of social media when it actually showed you what your friends were posting. I've also included a brief PSA highlighting the Electronic Frontier Foundation's crucial work protecting digital rights(I urge you all to check this group in protecting our rights); because now our 'rights' are something that's become increasingly important as the internet has evolved away from its user-centered roots.

Format

The format selected for our podcast is conversational/passionate(because with full honesty, I can't talk about the old internet without getting emotional). There's no guest interview this time around just me :) , my memories, and some fun facts about how dramatically the digital landscape has changed. If you've ever caught yourself missing the 'old internet,' this podcast is my invitation to join our community at Early Internet Nostalgia where we're documenting the golden age of new technology and simplistic lifestyle choices.
